Please post your paragraphs here.Watch clip of former Community College graduates speak about importance of graduating. Listen CAREFULLY Take notes on their names/jobs/accomplishment (note: pay close attention; names/jobs are only posted for a short time!) Which TWO speakers were most inspiring/motivational to you? What did they achieve? How did CC help them achieve their current status? What advice did they give to current CC students?
The two speakers that are most inspiring out of this clip for me are: Eileen Collins Astronaut she graduated from corning community college class of 1978, and Felix Rodriguez president of Hostos community college he graduated from that community college as well. They achieved by graduating Collins graduated with a associates degree and later managed to attend a technical school now is a Lt. Astronaut. Rodriguez has the motto “if you work hard then you will get that diploma.” Community colleges helped these people by helping them out work academically and get the skills they needed for the real world. The advice they give current community colleges to attend, work hard, as to finish what they started. Rodriguez’s motto for students: “Work hard, we are by your side we want to support you be sure, be sure that you are going to get that diploma. Much Success!”
The two speakers that became most inspiring from the clip were: Felix V. Matos Rodriguez and Eric Martinez. Felix Rodriguez was inspiring because he became someone from a Hispanic background to graduate from community college degree and is now a president of Hostos Community College. This goes to show that hard work does pay off. Eric Martinez was someone who was once in our shoes who attended Suffolk community college and then graduated with a 3.9 GPA, and earned a scholarship for an education in law school. Goes to show if they did it, then we can too.
The two speakers that I was inspired by were Jim Sunser and David Carlucci. Jim Sunser is now the president of GCC. In order to achieve this, he said he had a lot of help from the faculty. He advises that students should create personal relationships with the faculty. David Carlucci was more inspiring. He is the New York state senator. His advice to students is to commit to the things that they want to acieve. He also says to make things a priority, to put in hard work, and to be dedicated.
Isa Adney, author of "Community College Sucess" Seminole Community College '07 Isa is a inspirational speaker for the way that she is just like you or I. Telling us that getting involovedand asking for help will bring you onto the right path. Dave Jewett, ESPN Commentor Finger Lakes Community College '89 Dave is telling us that you need to socialize and make friends with all people and that they will incourage you to take on new obsticales you never thought you could. As in joining a sport you have never done or maybe to start up your own club. This is just the start of confidence that will begin to influence you.
Isa and Dave inspire me because of the message I recieve by them. Give things a chance, give people a chance, and give yourself a chance. You will never know if you don't go out of way and try. Trying things can never end in regret however not trying things can haunt you for a life time.
The two speakers that I was inspired by the most are Jim Sunser and Felix V. Matos Rodriguez. Jim Sunser is the president of GCC. He states that students should take advantage of the personal relationships with the faculty. Felix V. Matos was inpiring because, he comes from Hispanic background. He became the president of Hostos Community College. This show how much effort he made to succeed. He advises that working hard will bring you success. Students can get help and support from Community Colleges.
The two speakers that I found the most inspiring were Paula Stopera and Deborah Alimentato. I found these Paula Stopera inspiring because she started out in a community college and now she is the CEO of the Credit Union. I also found Deborah Alimentato very inspiring because she is now currently a chef, which is what I would currently like to do with my future. Knowing that these speakers aspired to be something big really motivates me.
After watching this video, the two speakers who inspired me the most was US Senator, Charles Schumer and George Simonton, a fashion designer. Charles Schumer graduated from a community college in New York and later went on to achieve his dream and become a US Senator. He says having a degree from his community college allowed him to do better than those who didn't and his advice to current community college students was "Keep up the good work, and make sure you get that degree." George Simonton graduated from the Fashion Institute of Technology in 1976. He achieved his dream of becoming a fashion designer and said that community college prepared him for promotions, interviews and he would always have the edge over the other person because he actually had a degree. His advice for current community college students is simple yet strong, "Don't give up!"
After watching the video, the two speakers that stood up to me were Senser and Shumer. Senser became a president at a community college after starting at a community college. to me, that shows that his experiences there impacted and motivated him so much that he wanted to be a part of that experience for other people who are in the position he was. I can relate to this because being here has made me reconsider my dream. I always wanted to be a clinical psychologist in a hospital, but after being at sccc i may want to be a psychology teacher or a counsler. Shumer caught my attention because the idea that a cc student can become a Senator is so inspiring to me.
The two speakers that stood out to my interests and inspired me are Paula Stopera andEdward Diana. They both graduated from community colleges and made something great out of themselves. Paula Stopera went to Hudson Valley Community College and is now a CEO. Edward Diana went to Orange County Community College and became the county executive! He related to the struggles of common students at community colleges when he said its hard to balance classes, part time work, and other things, but he got through it and so can we. There is a common notion we are fed, that states community college is for people that are unable to get accepted into Universities but that is simply not true. We are all here for a reason, and for them to peruse their goals and become who they are now is truly inspirational.
Two speakers who I felt were most inspiring to me were Dave Jewett and Eric Martinez. Dave Jewett went to Finger Lakes Community College and is now and ESPN Commentator. I felt he was inspiring because he said involving himself in sports or activities at the school helped him do better in the classroom. This showed me that getting involved in school can help me do better and motivated me to get more involved. Eric Martinez graduated from Suffolk and he inspired me because he went to the same exact school as me. He also inspired me to do well because after going to Suffolk Eric did so well in school that he got scholarships to his next school which would help a lot. Seeing that Eric went to Suffolk really shows you that you can do good things after leaving community college. Even though all these people all went to community college seeing someone that went to Suffolk helps show you the opportunities you can make for yourself when you apply yourself at community college.
While watching this video I quickly related to two of the speakers, Sunser and Jewett. Jim Sunser graduated from a community college as well as I will, but he also gave in my opinion excellent advice I wish I was told years prior, TAKE ADVANTAGE OF PERSONAL RELATIONSHIPS. This is one of the most imporant factors not only when you are trying to grow and find out who you are but also is a very important factor in life. YOu never know what someone you meet has in store for you or could connect you to your future. You know what they say, it is not what you know it is who you know. Dave Jewitt also caught my attention simply because he is a sports commentator and that is what I would like to study in the near future. He went on to say that he excelled in sports and in the classroom. He combined his love for sports with "working" and has become an ESPN analyst. I do not think there is any better way to approach a career than to conenct it with something you love in life, then it doesn't feel so much like work. I can relate to Jewitt in many ways and truly felt inspired by his will to work harder and go after what he loves.
The two people who I connected with while watching this video were Edward Diana and Larry King.
Diana is an Orange County Executive who is very expressive and talks about what everyone can relate to. I immediately found myself nodding my head as he said, "Times get difficult, as a student, as a person, as a family person, and some days look a little bleak and you wake up aand you say, 'How am I going to be able to to finish the day?'" I know from experience how hard it is to trudge through some days, and all I want to do is go home and take a nap. Some days you just want to shirk responsibility. Diana goes on to say that you will have those days at community college, but college allows people to create a better future. Your life will be more plentiful. He says education is the best way to better your lot in life.
King is a man that came from the family of thirteen children, but he didn't let it stop him. The way he talks in the video and the advice he gives proves to me that he took advantage every opportunity he could. He wanted to prove himself; he wanted to finish. He did accomplish what he wanted to. He was the first of his siblings to graduate high school AND college, and it paid off because he has a good job now as a Verizon salesperson. And he, like many of us, even expresses that you have to PUSH ON when you are "on the fence or have thoughts of dropping out." You have to keep going because it's worth it in the end.It will not serve you any good to start and never finish.
I myself am going through difficult times in my life right now. Every thing feels like a drag and it's hard to get through each day. But these two, as well as the whole video, give me inspiration and confidence to march on. As the famous Confuscius quote goes, "It does not matter how slow you go, as long as you do not stop."
Going to Community College is nothing someone should be ashamed of. Many people who go to a community college will achieve great things. For example, many people dream to have a cool job such as becoming an Astronaut. Lt. Col. Eileen Collins attended Corning Community College and graduated in '78 and is now an astronaut after receiving her associates degree at Corning then moving on to a four year college to earn her bachelors in math and economics. Kids always dream of becoming an astronaut but struggle to actually believe it can come true but Community College gives you a chance to better your grades and gives you confidence. Eileen was definitely inspiring because she achieved her dream job and makes others believe anything is possible. Another inspiring speaker in this video is Dave Jewett, attended Finger Lakes Community college, graduated in '89 and is now an ESPN Commentator. He inspires me because he did not have the best grades in high school, like me, and ended up being apart of the honors programs in college. If you try hard and believe in yourself you can better your future.
The speakers that inspired me the most are Jim Sunser and Felix V. Matos Rodriguez. Jim Sunser is the president of GCC and he tells students that they should take advantage of personal relationships that you can build with the faculty and secondly Felix V. Matos was inpiring because, he comes from Hispanic background. He became the president of Hostos Community College. This shows how much effort can be made to lead to succees. He advises that working hard will bring you success and that success will come to you if you try hard and put in the effort for that degree.
The two speakers who inspired me the most were Eileen Collins an Austronaut who graduated from Corning Community College and Kim Edwards a Best Selling Author who graduated from Cayoga Community College. These two fenominal women were able to accomplish their dreams and succeed in what they love most. Community College helped them realize they can go above beyond expectation. It made them realize that they can go ahead and do what they love most as long as they work hard for it. If they were able to succeed then why cant we. Hard work pays off at the end.
My path to community college was probably different from most of the rest of the class. Upon graduating high school in 2001 I had no interest in higher education. I thought I didn’t need it. After all, neither of my parents went to college and they did alright. Being in the workforce for the last 11 years has shown me just how limiting and frustrating a lack of education can be. The world has changed since my parents’ day. Having worked several blue-collar collar jobs over the last decade plus, I was able to relate to and see the truth in the message of the community college graduates in the video. One speaker who stood out for me was Dave Jewett. He graduated from Finger Lakes Community College with honors though he was not an honors student in high school. I, too, was a poor student in high school. When I cam to SCCC the councilor I met with suggested that I apply to the honors program, so I did. And I got accepted! Hearing testimony of someone who went through similar things as I did was very encouraging to me. The next speaker to catch my attention was Rod Risley, Phi Theta Kappa President. He graduated from San Jacinto Community College ’75. He describes the difficulty of working his way through college and how stressful it can be to balance a job and classes. In the end he says unequivocally that it was worth it. I am in the same situation right now. I did not take out student loans for school because I don’t want to be in debt. I am trying to earn enough to make my way through school, paying as I go. The hard times I have been through motivate me to keep going forward in my education. Seeing people who are living examples of success after community college lets me know that I can succeed too.
One speaker who had inspired me the most would be James Mezhir, he has inspired me not only because he is a army veteran, but because he succeeded in becoming a college professor while no doors were open to him. I will soon relate to this man because im joining the military and hope I can become as successful as he did in life. Even though it was hard for James, he got trought it and still had a great experience doing it. Also another speaker that has showed me that it's not going to be easy, but it's possible and will be worth it was Rod Risley. He is going through what most of the college students are doing today which is working just so you an attend school and get a better education. Both of these men have showed me that I can do it. They give me the confidence to pull through and go for what I want in life.
